Despite standout efforts from Milwaukee’s stars—Giannis Antetokounmpo, who posted 38 points and 11 rebounds, and Damian Lillard with 28 points and eight assists—the Bucks were outplayed by a determined Bulls team that dominated much of the second half.

“They were quicker, stronger, tougher, more physical the entire night on both ends of the floor,” admitted Bucks head coach Doc Rivers after the game.

Milwaukee briefly cut the Bulls’ lead to 102-101 early in the fourth quarter, but the Bulls never folded. Patrick Williams, a key contributor down the stretch, spearheaded Chicago’s surge with 10 fourth-quarter points, including a pivotal three-pointer and a crucial strip on Antetokounmpo. His defensive efforts and hustle plays, along with strong performances from teammates, kept the Bucks at bay.

Williams’ relentless energy was vital, as he not only disrupted Giannis but also provided offensive punch late in the game. “Patrick, he was a monster on both sides of the ball, taking on that challenge,” said Coby White, who led the Bulls with 35 points, including seven three-pointers on 13 attempts. “Both sides of the ball, he was the player of the game as far as impact.”

The Bulls’ new game plan was on full display—playing at a faster pace, driving to the paint, and kicking out for higher-percentage shots. Without DeMar DeRozan, who departed in the offseason, the Bulls are relying on a more team-oriented offensive approach to generate points.

“‘Zo (Lonzo Ball) always says, ‘Good to great.’ We’re focusing on making that extra pass, finding the highest-value shot instead of forcing looks,” said White. “We’ve got to stick to that identity—playing fast, shooting more threes, and wearing teams down with relentless effort.”

Friday’s performance marked a promising step in establishing the Bulls’ new identity, even as they adjust to life without DeRozan. With White leading the charge and role players like Williams making a significant impact, Chicago showed they can compete against top-tier competition.

The Bulls now look to carry this momentum into their next game as they continue to reshape their offensive identity and refine their high-tempo style of play. Meanwhile, the Bucks, despite strong individual efforts from their stars, will need to regroup after struggling to match the Bulls’ intensity for four quarters.
