Position Overview:
The Clinical Surveillance Scientist is a key role within the Global Patient Safety (GPS) organization. This position involves leveraging clinical and scientific expertise to detect safety signals, evaluate safety data, assess risks, and respond to regulatory inquiries for Lilly’s products. The successful candidate will prioritize tasks, apply critical thinking, and make judgment-based decisions in compliance with global regulations and internal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate safety signals from various internal and external data sources.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and review labeling modifications.
  • Lead safety team meetings for clinical and marketed products.
  • Define data acquisition strategies and methodologies for safety evaluations.
  • Analyze safety data and author safety topic reports.
  • Communicate safety information to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Author safety sections for global regulatory inquiries and periodic reports (e.g., DSURs, PSURs).
  • Contribute to safety communications including labeling and medical inquiries.
  • Mentor and coach peers and less experienced employees.
  • Identify innovative approaches to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster trust and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacovigilance regulations and quality systems.

Candidate Profile:

  • Educational Requirements:
    • Advanced medical degree (e.g., PharmD, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, or PhD) with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
    • Alternatively, a BS degree in a health-related or scientific field with 7-10 years of pharmaceutical experience.
  • Experience:
    • Clinical experience with 3-5 years in pharmaceutical or clinical development.
    • Understanding of disease states, drug effects, human physiology, and pharmacology.
    • Preferred experience in Global Patient Safety or Pharmacovigilance.
  • Skills:
    • Strong ability to manage multiple deliverables.
    • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
