Position Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Scientist II to co-lead multidisciplinary project teams focused on medicinal and synthetic chemistry. This role involves collaboration with colleagues in the Global Drug Development (GDC) teams in the US, Switzerland, and Indian CROs to develop novel therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead project teams in a collaborative environment, focusing on medicinal and synthetic chemistry.
  • Develop integrated team plans and flexible chemistry strategies to drive projects effectively.
  • Serve as the primary contact for CRO management, implementing best practices to ensure productivity and alignment with project priorities.
  • Collaborate with various NVS functions to leverage state-of-the-art drug discovery approaches.
  • Integrate complex project data to formulate scientific hypotheses and design molecules in collaboration with GDC teams.
  • Ensure timely reporting of data into NVS databases.
  • Act as an ambassador for NIBR, fostering relationships with external groups.

Candidate Profile:

  • Education: PhD in chemistry or a related life science discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in drug discovery with substantial CRO and project leadership experience. Proven track record from hit generation to development candidate selection.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of multi-parameter optimization and the ability to integrate disease biology, ADME, and toxicology data to address complex drug discovery challenges.
  • Mindset: Curiosity and openness to diverse thinking, with a commitment to personal and team development.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal English skills with strong influencing capabilities.
  • Interest: Enthusiasm for disruptive technologies and trends in data science and automation in drug discovery.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding and adherence to Novartis health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Collaboration: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented matrix environment.
