Position: Associate Director – Scientific Writing
Job Description:
- Personnel Management:
- Recruit and staff positions to meet business needs.
- Develop staff competencies and supervise direct reports.
- Facilitate performance management, personnel, and career development.
- Create a culture of accountability, excellence, and integrity.
- Resolve personnel issues in collaboration with HR and management.
- Participate in succession planning, talent assessment, and reward activities.
- Manage sourcing strategy, ensuring capability and capacity to meet deliverables.
- Prioritize work, assign resources, manage timelines, and shift resources as needed.
- Business Planning and Operations:
- Participate in business planning and budget development.
- Oversee metrics development, review/analysis, reporting, and issue resolution.
- Communicate progress of deliverables and risk mitigation strategies with business partners.
- Organizational Effectiveness:
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal/external partners.
- Provide functional influence, leadership, and management.
- Ensure audit readiness, quality, compliance, and develop risk management plans.
- Strategy Development and Implementation:
- Drive/oversee implementation of GSC/enterprise strategy.
- Develop synergies across teams and functional areas.
- Represent GSC in work stream projects and process improvement initiatives.
- External Outreach:
- Understand customer expectations and ensure fulfillment.
- Develop metrics for customer focus.
- Evaluate and act on competitive and regulatory environments.
- Develop and maintain key external contacts and partnerships.
Candidate Profile:
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MA, MBA) preferred.
- Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year in developing/supervising creation and delivery of communications/plans.
- 1 year leading/coaching others.
- 3 years in scientific communications/medical writing.
- Experience with tools/systems used by GSC.
- Manager-level or equivalent experience.
- Operations, business planning, sourcing, and metrics/reporting experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a changing environment.
- Problem-solving and conflict management skills.
- Strategy development and implementation skills.
- Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
- Six-Sigma and/or project management experience is a plus.
- Limited travel, including international, up to 15% in a given month.
